Obituary

Elizabeth Ann Garland-Buryta died March 26, 2017. She was 66 years old; born March 13, 1951 in Detroit, MI to Fredrick and Marie Garland. Liz grew up in southwest Detroit, and attended St. Francis D'Assisi Catholic School. She later taught kindergarten there for 12 years. Liz then taught at St. Scholastica for 18 years, and completed her career teaching kindergarten at the Early Childhood Center at Cranbrook for 10 years. She will always be remembered for her hard work and dedication to teaching. Liz loved to garden, and always kept a beautiful garden at home. She was also talented with various arts and crafts, particularly ceramics. Travel was another important aspect of Liz's life. She took memorable trips to Europe, most notably a pilgrimage from Spain to Rome that followed the life of St. Ignatius of Loyola. She also enjoyed travelling, especially by train, to all parts of the US, like the Grand Canyon and New Orleans. Liz was the beloved wife of Chris for 37 years. Loving sister of Joseph (Anne), Robert (Kathy), Chris (Rita), and Philip. Dear aunt of Scott, Erin, Lisa, and Steve. Family will receive friends Tuesday 2-8pm with Scripture service 7pm at A.J. Desmond & Sons (Vasu, Rodgers & Connell Chapel), 32515 Woodward (btwn 13-14 Mile), 248-549-0500. Funeral Mass Wednesday 12noon at St. Peter & Paul Jesuit Church, 438 St. Antoine St., Detroit. Visitation at church begins at 11:30am.
