Dear Brother Jerry...

Cool grade school buddy... played football together... chummed a bit...and he was one of the orignal grade school "Pack Rat's" artist... in the "Mad Magizine" style...man he could draw...and sketch... everyone loved Jerry... he was funny...

What i remember now and draw strength from...

Jerry was one of the few last victums in Michigan to fall pray to polio. By todays standards he would be classified handicap. But not Jerry, he never complained. He never stopped trying everything we did. He never said poor me. No way... he excelled.

He took his creative love for the pencil and used his imagention and became an excellent draftsman. A little part of him is in us all. Thankful to have known him... last touched base several years ago. When he lived over in Muskegon.

Frank Poderzinski said, Jerry Doyle was his first friend he made when he started High School at Holy Redeemer. That was the kind of guy Jerry was. All are welcome... character... and he probably sensed Frank was a coold dude too. With his black leather jacket and pomp-a-do hair :) From that tough Michigan Avenue Polish neighborhood.

Jerry's the joker, with a smile and frankness that will be missed by all the regular establishments he visited as well as by his loved one, family and friends. We may spend little time with another person...but that person can have a life long immpression on you (Jerry was one)!!!

Thanks brother...catch you on the rebound... bro Mac

Never knew Jerry could draw. Nor that he had polio. Wish I knew he had artistic talent back then. Beautiful tribute to him, Mac. Thanks for the link to his obit, Greg.

So when I heard Jerry had passed, lots of memories came up.  Jerry & Dave were like the brothers I never had.  Both very different...personalities, sense of humor, and talents. Jerry was the more sensitive listener, while Dave made me laugh.

Jerry and Dave both stood up to my wedding to Paul, which was May, 1973...celebrated 50yrs this past May.  I introduced them to their wives; Donna & Diane Marzec.  They are twins, and I brought them to a Redeemer dance (they went to an all Girls High School, so they wanted to meet boys).  Dave hooked up with Diane, Jerry with Donna.  I was happy to be a match-maker for my "brothers".

Mac, I appreciate your perspective on his earlier years.  Jerry's disability was never an issue, in fact only when he had to brush back his hair from his forehead, that's when you noticed it.

I've only infrequently connected with him, tried to get him to our 50th re-union, but he never responded.  I was happy to last see him with Dave, around 2012, maybe 6 months before Dave passed(thats the more recent pic).  Met two of Jerry's kids on that visit, he was very proud of them.

Jerry was the one who called me, as I was boarding a plane, to tell me about Dave's passing.  I remember my 1st instinct reaction was "you're kidding me!"(even though I new Dave's days were numbered), and Jerry responded very wryly like "Yea Linda, I was just joking".

Of course, now I wish I had tried harder to connect.  I think I have some sketches Jerry did, got to dig them up...May he be at peace, and may his children know that the was loved by many fellow classmates.

Peace to my 'brother'.....love you

Linda, thanks for sharing your great pics and your feelings about Jerry and Dave. It can be a mixed up shookup world. But there are pieces of people and friends, that live on in us forever.

I believed in anything. It would be the people i've met in life and what they meant to me.

We all walk alone in a sense. But their are people that can give us the strength or understanding to take the next step. And step out of our comfort zones. Especially when be are blue...and we think the glass is half empty...we say hell no.

My glass is half-ful... and it might even overflow today. ;) as we smile and joke with the person in front of us...in the long line of life...
